"This Ship is Built to Fight, You Better Know How." - Arleigh '31 Knot' Burke
USS Osprey is the 17th production ship completed of the Maelstrom Class 's second “Bird” run (the 47th ship overall), and was 'launched' SD 82086.87 (1 Febuary 2405) at Utopia Planitia Shipyard facility Beta 291, sponsored by Miss Alecia Yarkanov, daughter of Lt. Cmdr Gregory Yarkanov, a Medal of Supreme Valor winner during the Dominion Wars. Commissioned SD 82870.4 (14 November 2405) after a refit to adjust a number of problems found during acceptance and evaluation trials.
Osprey served as part of 3rd Task Group, 7th Fleet during the renewed Klingon war, taking part in fleet actions through the entire Arcanis sector. Heavily damaged through most of this time, it was noted that Osprey spent more time in the Repair Yards than on patrol. A fact that lead to several formal inquiries and frequent changes in command.
During the battle of Donatu 7, Osprey was nearly destroyed after falling into a Klingon Ambush. Taking direct fire from no less than four Vor'kang Class Battlecruisers, Osprey was reduced to 'barely flyable scrap' and survived in large part due to an errant trajectory imparted by the port nacelle exploding and the subsequent cover and hazard of venting high energy warp plasma. Heroic damage control efforts by the ships remaining crew allowed the ship to be towed to K-7. Initially the ship was evaluated as "Damaged Beyond Practical Feasibility of Repair" the SCE interceded and turned Osprey over to their Dock of Special Services for an experimental refit and repair.
On SD 86870.4 (14 November 2409) Osprey's command was given to Cmdr Vaughn J. Albern after completing test trials of the SCE's experimental refit. The ship was assigned to Battle Group Omega as part of the 3rd Combat Wing and deployed as part of the reaction force to the Vega Colony incursion. Upon completing a full combat tour with BG Omega, Osprey was reassigned to Epsilon Deep Space Exploration Fleet and served under Vaughn Albern's command through his promotions to Captain and later Commodore.
Upon Vaughn Albern's promotion to Admiral, Osprey's command was given over to Cmdr. Ejelee Albya, the ship's previous first officer, though was retained as Albern's Flagship and as part of his Division's command.
Currently USS Osprey is on Active Reserve while she undergoes an extensive "Fleet" level upgrade, and expected to undergo Test and Evaluation trials sometime in the near future.
